Hodge Silk Cleaning Swabs are hand-made from fine, 100% China Silk.
Silk is very absorbent, soaking up water in instruments better than any other material on the market, including both cotton and chamois. Silk is also very compressible, making it possible to pull through instruments with large variations in bore size. In addition, silk is lint free.
The silk saxophone swabs are designed to go all the way through the fully assembled saxophone. There is no need to remove the neck or carry a separate swab for the neck. This is a great convenience. The tenor saxophone swabs are designed the same as the alto saxophone swabs, but with a longer cord and heavier weight. The soprano swab also has the coated weight, but BEWARE; you will have to cut the swab down to fit the through the older fixed-neck curved sopranos!
The silk baritone saxophone swabs are uniquely designed to swab out the circular part of the body after each playing session. This swab is designed to keep this area clean and to keep gunk from building up. It is a foam covered flexible snake, 24 inches long and the diameter of the bore of the circular section of the saxophone, with a silk covering which quickly absorbs the water that has accumulated. This swab is pushed into the top of the saxophone and around the loop and then pulled back out removing the moisture. The neck is cleaned similarly.
